Southampton Personalised Football Calendar

A Fabulous Gift Idea For Southampton Fans!

Southampton FC, formed in 1885, contested three FA Cup finals in the early 1900s. The Saints did not reach the final again until 1976, but this time Southampton would win the match to earn the club's first major trophy. In addition to this victory, Southampton have enjoyed periods of top flight football and have developed a great youth system that nurtures local talent. Players to emerge from the Saints' Academy have included Theo Walcott, Wayne Bridge and Gareth Bale and all three players have gone on to represent their country at international level. Another feature of Southampton FC is the bitter rivalry it shares with Portsmouth FC. Matches between the two clubs are known as “The South Coast Derby," and the volatile atmosphere stems from longstanding competition between the cities; Portsmouth was home to the Royal Navy and Southampton features the country's leading civilian Port.

Our Personalised Southampton Calendars feature a fascinating range of reproduced match reports, covering some of the best games that the Saints have played over the past fifty years. Starting from the month of your choice, these A3 Calendars make a great gift for fans of the club and they are sure to bring back wonderful memories of fantastic Southampton performances.

Calendar Highlights

The Personalised Southampton FC Calendars begin back in 1963, when a great run in the FA Cup had led the Saints to a quarter-final tie against Nottingham Forest. Two draws enforced two replays and Southampton finally thrashed Forest 5-0. Three years later, the club competed in the Fairs Cup and faced Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães. Southampton won the opening leg 5-1 with a terrific performance and our A3 Calendar includes a report on this fantastic European win.

Although Southampton would lose in the next round of the Fairs Cup, the club was developing strongly in domestic competition and enjoyed a comfortable eight year run in the top flight. In the 1970s, the Saints also made a name for themselves with another series of great performances in cup competitions. In 1974, Southampton thrashed Derby County 5-0 in the League Cup, and two years later, the club lifted its first major trophy by beating Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup Final. This victory guaranteed the Saints a place in the European Cup Winner's Cup for the following season. A highlight of this European campaign was the convincing 2-5 win against Carrick Rangers in the second round. The Southampton Calendar features all of these impressive cup wins, in addition to the 5-1 victory against Sheffield United in 1984 FA Cup quarter-finals.

Whilst thrilling cup ties were exciting both players and fans alike, Southampton fell briefly out of the First Division. However, a 1-1 draw against Orient ensured a return to the top flight in 1978. Other special league wins incorporated in our Calendar gift include the 4-2 win against Arsenal in 1988 and the 4-1 defeat of Liverpool later in the same year. In 1996, Southampton handed Manchester United a 6-3 mauling and in 2003, the Saints enjoyed a convincing 3-0 derby win against Portsmouth FC.
