Coventry City Personalised Football Diary
Terrific Diary Gifts for Coventry City Fans!
Coventry City, also known as the Sky Blues, could certainly give Harry Houdini a run for his money in terms of dramatic escapes! The club came back from a goal behind twice in their legendary FA Cup win of 1987 and the team also became famous for regularly avoiding relegation on the final day of the season; something they did numerous times during their thirty-four year run in the top flight. In 2007, former footballer Roy Ronson came to the club’s rescue at the last minute, pouring £20 million into Coventry City to stop the team from going into administration. With a new owner and also a new stadium in place, the Sky Blues will be hoping for a slightly less nerve-wracking new era of success for their club!
Our Personalised Coventry City Diaries include twelve of the best newspaper reports on the Sky Blues from the past sixty years, including the terrific FA Cup run of 1987. Written by journalists who were there at the time and starting from the month of your choice, these A5 Diaries are a unique gift idea for any Coventry City fan!
Diary Highlights
These Personalised Coventry FC Diaries start with the appointment of legendary City manager Jimmy Hill in 1961 and go on to include a great collection of stand-out league and cup successes that the Sky Blues have enjoyed over the past sixty years.
Starting with the league, the A5 Diary opens with the dramatic 2-1 City win against Sunderland from 1963, which was only won in the final six minutes of the match. In 1964, Coventry FC would experience an even more dramatic finish, as the club won the Third Division title in the final match of the season, beating Colchester 1-0 in front of a huge home crowd. City would take three years to find their feet in the Second Division, before then going on to claim this title in 1967, promoting the Sky Blues to football’s top flight for the very first time. With a 5-0 thrashing of Watford from 1980 and a 3-1 victory against Chelsea in 1997 also included in the Coventry City Diary, the league successes cover a variety of managers and eras, but always bring back great memories!
Cup triumphs have also been memorable for the Coventry FC supporters and this is another highlight of the Coventry City Diary Gift. In 1970, the Sky Blues qualified for the Fairs Cup after beating Wolves 1-0 away and finishing sixth in the old First Division. The club would enjoy a fantastic 1-4 victory against Trakia Plovdiv in their first trip into Europe, but would unfortunately go no further in the competition after being beaten by Bayern Munich in the next round. There were much happier times to come for City in the domestic cup competitions however, as in 1987, Coventry FC won their most famous ever match, beating Tottenham 3-2 in the FA Cup Final after forcing an own goal in extra time.
