Personalised Ipswich Town Football Books
Enjoy a Newspaper History of the Blues
Ipswich Town FC was founded as an amateur team in 1878. The Blues turned professional in 1936 and joined the Football League in 1938. Alf Ramsey became manager of Ipswich in 1955 and he immediately led the club to a third place finish in Division Three. The Blues won the title in the following season and Ramsey guided Ipswich to the Second Division title five years later. The football world was stunned when Ipswich Town went on to win the First Division championship in their debut top flight season. The club’s form stalled in 1963, however, as Alf Ramsey departed to manage the national side. Bobby Robson brought success and trophies back to the club when he became manager in 1969. Ipswich Town regularly featured in the First Division’s top five places and they competed in the UEFA Cup during the 1970s. The club won the FA Cup in 1978 and the UEFA Cup in 1981. The Blues finished as runners-up of the First Division in 1981 and 1982.
